Not so Virtual

Vol. 1, No. 18 April 28, 2020

Given my hopes of reaching more people, this edition will also be delivered on paper.

We (I hope to have some help) intend to walk behind the garbage trucks at the end of this week and put a flyer on each bin. My hope is that more people will learn that this sporadic publication is available by email. Please send me your email (sally.b.philips@gmail.com) and I will be sure you receive new editions by email. Or go to my web site to read future (and past) publications: www.mayorsallyphilips.com.

THE PARKS [some of them, partially] WILL OPEN on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29!

Please be sure you understand that there are quite a few restrictions to using the parks.

Please stay safe and keep others safe.

There is a public comment portal where anyone who wants to comment about safely re-opening Florida can do so:

From AARP Foundation Tax-Aide: IRS Updates

The IRS continues to provide updated information regarding Economic Impact Payments at these sites:

A new walk-up test site started operation on Monday (April 27) at Holy Family Catholic Church (14500 NE 11 Avenue, North Miami, FL 33163) [19.9 miles from City Hall]. An appointment is necessary. Call 305-499-8767.

A Commission Meeting is planned for Tuesday, May 5th, at 7:00 pm. It will be a meeting held on Zoom. All of the Commissioners and relevant staff have been practicing. We hope to make this as smooth an event as possible. Instructions about how to tune in will be forthcoming. The Chambers will be open, but due to social distancing requirements only 9 residents will be allowed to attend in that way. The agenda, as always, will be posted on the South Miami website: https://www.southmiamifl.gov/102/Agendas-Minutes

Farm Share will be distributing food at the Gibson Bethel Community Center on Thursday, May 7, starting at 9:00 am. As you know, cars start lining up early. This time the entrance will be from 66th street. Direction about this will be forthcoming, too.

For those who have tested positive once for COVID-19, re-testing is available at four sites: Marlins Park (8.1 miles from City Hall), FIU/Fair Grounds (8.5 miles), South Dade Government Center (11.5 miles) and Hard Rock Stadium (23 miles). Appointments are necessary at the first three: 305-499-8767. No appointment is required at Hard Rock Stadium.
