SO MUCH GREED

The Peoples' Union USA is a group which has been organized by a man named John Schwartz. (He writes about his history and his motivation here.) The Union is calling for economic protests about the disregard of the wealthy business community for the middle and lower income residents in the United States. The calendar of blackouts is:

AND YET . . .

For several months a free food give-away has happened at the Children's Clinic that is next to the Gibson-Bethel Community Center. Today, February 27, is the fifth month for this generosity. In the past months 75-100 people have shown up to help themselves to needed groceries.

This Mobile Market happens in South Miami the fourth Thursday of every month. If you know people who are struggling, please let them know about this resource.

TAX-AIDE

The South Dade team of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers has been very busy. As you know, we provide free federal income tax preparation and filing for most taxpayers. I volunteer at four of those sites. Not only do I think this is a worthwhile way for me to contribute, but I also very much enjoy working with my colleagues and meeting the taxpayers. There are six sites we work at every week. At least two of them are close to South Miami - the South Miami Library (Mondays, 10-2) and the Pinecrest Library (Saturday, 10-2).
