This addition to the uniqueness of South Miami has been in the planning for a number of years. I am so glad to see it coming together finally.
I plan to be there for an hour or so. Then I'm going to a training to become a tutor for adults who do not read well. It's a program of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Why important things have to happen all at the same time has always mystified me.
SOMI MARKET
What we have been calling the Winn-Dixie area in South Miami is being called SoMi Market by the developer. There is a lot of research I want to do about the developer's agreement with the City, and about what the Commission was told during the meetings when the change in zoning the developer wanted happened. I have not begun to dig, because I have been working six days almost every week preparing taxes. When I've gotten clarity about what the SoMi Market plans were/are, I'll write about what I discover.
TAX SEASON
Speaking of which: there are three more days when tax returns should be filed unless one has an extension or does not mind risking a penalty for filing late. The AARP Tax-Aide Program will be at the Pinecrest Library Saturday, 4/15, at the South Miami Library on Monday, 4/17, and at the Homestead Community Center on Tuesday, 4/18. The hours at each site are from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The service is free: taxes are prepared, reviewed, and, with the taxpayer's permission, efiled. People who want to have their taxes prepared should bring all the relevant tax papers they have received, IDs (usually driver's licenses), and their Social Security Cards. It is often helpful if they bring their 2021 returns with them. There are no age, AARP membership, or income requirements in order to recieve tax help.
